Swimming Standby with Legacy

Standby lists

Lots of swimmers want to be part of the Legacy, but we only have twelve spots per training group. If you want to join the team this fall but aren’t able to get a spot in one of the regular training groups, we might have space for you on one of our standby lists. Standby swimmers attend workouts on a drop-in basis during the planned absences of regular training group members. Swimmers on the standby list also get first dibs on training group spots that become available over the course of the year.

All registered swimmers — regular training group members and standby swimmers — are given access to fillable sheets according to group and lane assignments (Group C lane 3, Group B lane 2). Training group members make workouts available to standby swimmers by filling in their planned absences, and standby swimmers claim workouts by signing up for spots made available by regular group members.

Not all absences are planned: sometimes things come up at the last minute. To give standby swimmers even more opportunities to attend workouts, each sheet will have a corresponding WhatsApp channel. Regular training group members can communicate unplanned absences in real time (“I’m stuck at the airport!”), and standby swimmers who were born ready can jump in the pool.

  • Standby swimmers must register with Legacy Masters Swim Club for the 2025-26 season and pay the annual $90 membership/registration fee.
  • Standby swimmers can claim up to 3 workouts per week (including Fridays):
    • The first claimed workout of the week can be on a weekday or a Saturday.
    • The second claimed workout of the week must be on a Saturday.
    • Standby swimmers can claim a third workout no sooner than 24 hours prior to the start of the workout.
  • Claimed workouts are payable upon sign up. When you claim a workout on the sign up sheet, a workout will be removed from your workout card. You do not get a workout refunded to your card if you sign up and then decide not to show up.
