No one is more dedicated to Masters Swimming than our incredible coach, Susie Skoda. To keep our team thriving despite limited pool space, Susie runs workouts out of a tiny pool, most days just two lanes at a time. This means she is at the pool eight different times a week, pouring her skills and energy into our community.
Thanks to her thoughtful workouts and ability to build an amazing team culture, Legacy Masters has captured back-to-back provincial titles! But Susie has given us so much more than medals and banners; she helped create a family. We support each other through all walks of life—we have celebrated weddings, welcomed new babies, encouraged one another through injuries, and lifted each other up both in and out of the pool.
Now, Susie needs our community to rally around her.
Susie was recently diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer and is beginning chemotherapy immediately. Coaching is her sole source of income. Because of the aggressive nature of her treatment, she will be unable to work (or work a very limited amount) for at least the next six months.
While her faithful swimmers are already organizing a meal train, rides to appointments, and household help, we want to relieve a huge burden: financial stress. Our goal is to raise $30,000 to give Susie the gift of peace of mind. These funds will cover:
- Living expenses and general bills while she cannot work.
- Medical costs and healthcare needs not covered by MSP.
- Daily support like food delivery and specialized care.
We are hoping the broader East Vancouver community, Masters Swimming BC, and anyone whose life Susie has touched will join Legacy Masters in supporting our coach. Every donation, no matter the size, allows Susie to focus entirely on her treatment and recovery.
Thank you for your generosity and support. If you have any questions or want to help further, please reach out to Jane Halton (on behalf of Legacy Masters).
